Kayla Rawlings
Swimming has always been a defining part of my life. A journey built on dedication, early mornings, and lifelong friendships. My foundation for the sport began here in South Surrey, when I joined the Pacific Sea Wolves Swim Club at the age of 9. Between 2002 to 2008, I trained with the Langley Olympians Swim Club under coach and mentor Brian Metcalfe, earning an induction into the LOSC Hall of Fame. Those years brought opportunities with the Canadian National Team, including competing at the 2006 Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Victoria, the 2006 Canadian Junior Team Tour in Melbourne, and the 2007 Paris Open. Swimming provided me the opportunity to attend university and compete at the NCAA Division I level for Oregon State University, where I earned All-American relay honors.
After my age group and collegiate days, my passion for the sport led me back to coaching masters swimming with the LOSC. It was as a coach that I made my return to the blocks, in 2022, after over a decade away from competitive swimming. However, my Masters swimming journey was missing a spark until I joined the White Rock Wave Swim Club in September 2025, where I truly reignited my passion. Since joining the WRW, I've broke SC and LC BC Masters records in butterfly and freestyle events. Looking ahead, I'm excited to keep pushing for personal bests, expanding my freestyle events, and setting my sights on Canadian Masters records as I enter the 40–44 age category in January 2027!
Above all, I’m loving competing alongside such an inspiring and encouraging team. There’s nothing better than being a part of relays again and having supportive teammates and coaches pushing me in practice every week! Thank you to my WRW team for this opportunity and award; it’s an honour!
