About Us

Come Catch The Wave!

The White Rock Wave Masters Swim Club was formed in 1999. The club is both a competitive and social group with most swimmers interested in local competition, with some team members competing internationally in pool and open water races. In fact, many of our members have become addicted to open water swimming and swim regularly on Saturday mornings around Lake Sasamat in Port Moody in the warmer months.

The club is competitive--recently winning the MSABC Provincials and the MSABC league trophy for teams of our size--but we welcome all ability levels. Everyone can compete and contribute points for the team. Workouts focus on skill refinement, stroke efficiency, developing endurance and speed. The ability to swim 50 metres in all competitive strokes is expected and good physical condition is an asset. The minimum workout for the slower lanes is about 2000 metres per hour.

For competition, your age is taken as of December in the year you are competing. We have swimmers competing on our team well into their 90s. In Canada, you must be at least 18 to participate in the Masters swimming program. Currently, we have about 80 members on our roster.

Club members currently hold numerous BC Provincial and Canadian records. We even have some International record holders in their age group. Swim meets are not just about swimming races though. Club members enjoy the opportunity to travel together and spend time exploring a bit of BC. The great thing about Masters Swimming is there is a place for everyone. You compete against people who swim at your speed (men and women swim together in races and ages are also mixed--you are placed in a heat according to your time).

Camaraderie

Swim meets give swimmers across BC and Canada a chance to test their swimming progress in a friendly environment swimming against others at the same level. It's a great way to meet others from around the Province who share your enthusiasm for swimming! We also have plenty of social events where you can get to know your Wave teammates who swim in the other lanes!
